Re: Are you supposed to secure your modem

it depends , does your modem have a built in facility to activate a hardware firewall?

You use a hrdware firewall in a router as the first line of defense in your security setup , i suppose it depends on your modem as to whether or not it has one.

But if you mean just the wireless security then no you dont need it with a modem connected directly , the wep or wpa/psk security is simply to encrypt the wireless signal between you and your router so no one can "tap into" it.

As your moem is "hard wired" your good to go with just your software AV an firewall , theres nothing else you can do

Re: Are you supposed to secure your modem

yes i assumed that , so unless you have a haredware firewall built into your modems config then theres nothing more you can do anyway , your av and firewall will be your first and last line of defense
