Vista x64 Remote Desktop issue

Hi There,

I have remote desktop enabled in my Vista x 64 computer allowing accepting connection from any remote client version but I have a wear issue when I try to connect to this computer from another computer running XP.

The vista computer reboot without reason when I try to connect to my Vista Machine from a XP machine. The error message that I get is:

A critical system process, C:\Windows\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code 255. The machine must now be restarted.

Re: Vista x64 Remote Desktop issue

Without LSASS, the OS cannot continue to operate. Therefore, the reboot is only a side-effect of the LSASS crash and it's the latter which ought to be your focus.

Is this machine a domain member or standalone? If it's part of a domain, does the same LSASS crash happen to other Vista clients in similar circumstances?

What version of the Terminal Services client are you using to connect from XP? If it's not the latest, you might want to test the effects of upgrading. Even an old TSC shouldn't cause crashes by itself, but little is known about your situation presently.

Are there any events logged on Vista as a result of the LSASS crash (the reboot event is not interesting)?

The most likely explanation is non-default code (an extra DLL or two) in LSASS on the Vista box which is causing a crash, but presumably only when an older TSC (from XP) is doing the connecting.

Re: Vista x64 Remote Desktop issue

I will try to answer your questions :

Is this machine a domain member or standalone?
Yes, it is. The computer belong to a windows 2000 domain

does the same LSASS crash happen to other Vista clients in similar circumstances?

I reinstalled the OS three times because this error and each time the same issue, the windows vista always restart after you try to connect using terminal services. We don't have another machine using Vista in this moment.

What version of the Terminal Services client are you using to connect from XP?

I am using 6.0 version.

The following logs are recorded in the computer :

A critical system process, C:\Windows\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code 255. The machine must now be restarted.

The security package Schannel generated an exception. The exception information is the data

The process wininit.exe has initiated the restart of computer JAIR-DT on behalf of user for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found

Re: Vista x64 Remote Desktop issue

I have the same problem with 2 new Dell PCs. Both have Vista 64 bit. I have tried reinstalling Vista 64 on one of them after reformatting, but the problem still occurs. Both PCs are connected to a domain.
