Vista - Wireless Adapter.

okay so my computer is a gateway laptop. gateway decided that my year warranty is up even though its not august. so they wont help me. First my screen went black when i turned it on one day.. i left it alone and later on it turned back on but it went to the screen where it says safe mode or regular mode and stuff. it said put in your back up cd. so i couldnt find mine. so i used my grandparents... its an older verison i think. not much older .. they just got their computer like a year or two before i got mine in aug. 2008. so the back up cd or whatever worked and my computer turns on liek its supposed to. but now it wont recognize wireless routers or an ethernet cable. and i cant find my wireless adapter anywhere. the light is still on that says the wireless adapter is on. do i need to just go buy another cd. or take it to geek squad or something?? just need some suggestions. thanks.,
