I have the same issue, some people said that my old Linksys WRT54G was the culprit... something about not being compatible with Vista, etc, etc.

I just got my new D-Link N Router which I will install tonite... I'll let you know what happens tomorrow. It will depend on whether my wife screams or not!

Things I have tried:

  • Disabling IPV6
  • Using OpenDNS instead of ISP DNSs
  • Maximum Power instead or Power Save
  • Uninstalling Nvidia Network or Forceware Manager
  • Refreshing my router's firmware
I don't recall if this is 100% true but I think it is... as long as I hook the Comcast cable directly to my PC, I don't have this issue. It is only effective when I go with the router... wired!

Hello Kavita,

Depending on what and how you are trying to access the internet when the computer is asleep, check in Device Manager to make sure that the top item below is unchecked.

Hope this helps for now,

Kavita, I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted, but sad it took a reinstall to do it.

Well, I thought I had done that to mine (perhaps on the previous install I did and forgot to do so on this recent one) so I was all happy when I Unticked it. I inmediately went ahead and Restarted my PC, changed my router while I was at it and went to let the pc go to sleep.

I am sad to say that this does not work for me, although, at least, if I choose to Diagnose and Repair, it fixes the issue but I still will like to know why it does that.

Well, I can honestly say that I am also glad and happy for you but sad and upset for me because last week is when I did a complete installation of Windows Vista. Heck, I even did it twice because I wanted to have a completely fresh and formatted hard drive before doing it.

I am going to try Enabling the IPV6 back on to see if with the new D-Link router, Vista might want to play nice. This is annoying to say the least as my wife keeps shutting down the pc every so often and I know this is not good for it.

Re: No internet connection when computer is asleep

Well, IPV6 did NOTHING... Vista 7 does not want to go to sleep on me so I can't test it with another OS.
