Random Disconnects and Reconnects that mess up applications.

Ok just got new computer with Vista on it, not 100% sure if it's a vista problem, but this problem only starting occuring when I got Vista.

Anyway, I have a direct cable connection (not wireless) to a Cox Communications Modem. Has worked fine for quite awhile so I doubt it's an internet service providers fault.

The problem is - I'll randomly disconnect from the internet for a EXTREMELY brief time, like 1 second. This has no problems with simple new browsing, as there is no need for constant connection to be effective. However, I'm a gamer and my internet playing is very at fault toward this problem. For instance, i'll play a game and it'll randomly disc from the game. I also would have Ventrilo running (chatting program), and it'll kick me off briefly, where i can re-connect right away (a note for that matter, I can see "myself" in the room still, as if the connection is still trying to re-connect even though I reconnected).

This problem is extremely annoying...specially since i just spent 600 dollars on this new comp >.>

ive of this alot but only in wireless , due to vista searching for new networks.

do you have the latest drivers for your lan network adapter? are there any driver/firmware updates available for your router/modem?

It's possibly the software automatically installed,

Has McAfee been known to stir trouble?
