anybody who is computer literate help me out? tcip.sys error

okay so i'm new here and i just wondered if anybody had a possible fix for me without using a vista disc.

i'm on vista x64 and i downloaded some stupid tcpip patch which did nothing except make it impossible to boot up my system in any mode except when i boot up in disable driver signature enforcements and in that mode i can only stay on for a maximum of 10 seconds after the log on screen.

so...is there anything I can do to fix what i've done? any help would be awesome because this is really pissin me off

Hello Dragula, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You can try doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before you installed the patch to see if it may be able to undo and fix this for you.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

thank you for the help but how would i do a system restore without even being able to access the desktop? i'm not very good with these sort of things and am quite lost.

You can use METHOD TWO at that link to do so instead.

Re: anybody who is computer literate help me out? tcip.sys error

okay, i was checkin it out and i get to the screen where it offers me to choose Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Memory Diagnostic but when i choose the Vista selection there is no repair option.

I know this is probably frustrating to you because the answer is so obvious as to what i'm missing but i am trying to understand what i need to do to fix this. i am just hoping i have an option other than using a disc

When you use METHOD TWO at this link to boot from your Vista installation DVD, do you see the options under step 6 there to select System Restore?

Na, you're not out of luck. You can use this tutorial to create a recovery disc to boot into the System Recovery Options screen to select System Restore from.

To quote dslreports on TCP tweaking tools: "Vista TCP tuning (tweaking) is NOT advisable. The Vista TCP stack does a reasonable job of tuning the receive window dynamically, there are no known registry tweaks that would optimize Vista better than its default configuration."
