Vista to Wired to Vista to Wireless to Internet How?

Overview: A Vista Rig hardwired to a Vista Laptop with a wireless internet connection, will allow transfer of files between both computers, but only the laptop will connect to the internet even though I have internet sharing on and all ICP's on both computers are set to automatic.

I was running an XP Notebook before with my Vista Ultimate x64. I was doing fine with the connection. But the Notebook suffers from overheating issues (overqualified CPU), and it seems it's taken it's last hit. I forgot to put the fan under it. So, I borrowed my brother's new Dell Latitude D531 with Vista Ultimate x32 on it (freshly installed by me).

Given both the comps are Vista's I thought hey it would be easier to get the two to share the Laptop's wireless internet connection. It worked, a bit, and then it stops working.

So here is the setup. My Rig (VUx64) has a network card connected to an ethernet cable. That card has had both ICPs set to automatic. The cable runs to the Laptop (VUx32) which it's LAN connection is also set to automatic ICPs. I went into to the broadband wireless connection and it's also automatic and checked the box on the sharing tab in the properties dialog box.

I went to Network and Sharing on both machines and allowed network discovery setting all networks besides the Wireless one to private and setting both computers to the workgroup CROTCHLITHHUB. All sharing is pretty much set on.

On VUx64 there is only one connection to VUx32 and that is set to private. On VUx32 there are two. The Wireless connection is set to public and an unidentified network set to private.

After all this, however, I am still not getting any internet source on VUx64. What gives?

Any help on getting VUx64 on the internet through VUx32's wireless connection would be much appreciated. The Laptop is not my main computer, and I want to use programs from my Rig like games and stuff that the Laptop definitely can't run.

Either that or I'll just have to go buy a USB wireless hub for the rig, but that defeats the purpose somewhat. And we'll leave adding the Xbox 360 to the second connection on the Rig and getting it to the net as well for another day.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, archie, but I already covered that base unfortunately. Unless I have to go into the Advanced menu next to the Using ICS. I checked Web Server (HTTP) just in case and VUx64 still isn't getting a pass to the web.

Also every time I do connect the Rig to the Laptop, the Laptop seems to lose it's internet connection entirely. The web browser won't browse, but the wireless connection is fully connected with a very good signal, which doesn't make any sense at all. It's as if when I plug the cable in, it becomes the internet connection when clearly there is already one way to the internet established and that's through the wireless modem.

I don't have the share internet connection checked on the Rig, because it's not the one with the internet. I've put everything like I would suspect it to be, but these two just aren't working together.

APPEND:

Huh, would Internet Management Services interfere with such a network? I just recently downloaded and installed IIS 7 trying to setup an at home host server on my Rig. Well here's my reasoning at questioning this.

I went ahead and bought a wireless USB adapter because I was tired of fooling around with the two Vistas not communicating with each other properly. However, I was still not getting internet access on the Rig even after I registered the device's MAC address with my internet account here at the appartments. It was having trouble even connecting to the wireless cloud even, and stopped connecting due to unknown problems.

I then decided to just turn off Internet Management Services. Maybe some setting in there was messing it up, because I even couldn't see the browse 80*http from in there either. Low and behold the net connects through, dropping the one on the laptop and I'm here.

Could it be?
