Vista won't allow me to access the internet.

I just reinstalled my OS, and am having trouble connecting to the internet with my desktop. I've tried calling up att, and it turns out my IP can be located, but I can't seem to access the internet. I tried pinging a few websites in my command prompt, but all my requests ended up timing out.

So I am connected to the internet, but am unable to access it.

Any suggestions? I'm using a wired connection btw...

Did you install your chipset drivers after finishing with the new OS install? Who is your ISP? Are you connected straight from a modem cable, ethernet cable or behind Router setup?

I installed my chipset drivers, my ISP is AT&T (who could not resolve my problem), and I am connected to a router. I don't know exactly what's going on; AT&T is able to locate my IP address, but my computer does not recieve any responses from the internet...

Re: Vista won't allow me to access the internet.

when you say that you are conected to the router are you saying that you are getting a local ip address if so maybe you can login to your router and see if he is getting a Public IP Address, Some router have tools such as ping and traceroute and you from ping from the router. If this is successful the it must be some sort of firewall issues either with your PC or your router.
do you use cabel or dsl to connect to the internet

Re: Vista won't allow me to access the internet.

Suggest eliminating your router and connecting your computer directly to your cable or DSL modem until you are able to get that computer working with the internet. Even if you have other computers on the router and they work with the internet, it's usually best to get to bare bones configuration to get stuff working.

BTW, while you are connected to the router, are you able to ping it successfully?

Even my network and Sharing window indicates that I AM connected to the internet. I'm just unable to access it. I even turned off windows firewall and obtained the same result...
