Windows 2000 and Vista home networking.

So, I'm having a strange issue. I've connected my Windows home premium and the 2000 to the router and Vista can not find my 2000 from the net. I do get an ping reply from both directions. I have them in the same workroup (I guess if it is as easy to just name the groups the same?).
All I want to do is atleast to share files between the computers.
All firewalls are gone (sortof). The TTPL or what ever topology thingy it is, is on.

As you can see, I'm not made for creating home networks so please, be gentle.
Or even better, if you could do/link me to an good tutorial.

I did the search and didn't find any relating issues.

some routers do not like it,

is network discovery turned on on the vista machine?

is the network set to private on vista?

also turn off password protected sharing in vista?

    turn on file sharing.

those can all be found in the network and sharing center

    Ofcourse.
Tough, from my 2000 I can't see anything in the net, but Vista atleast recognizes the router.

I just noticed, my windows 2000 can't access any network anymore, and there's no response when I try to ping the other computer. Well, also internet is not possible.
What I know, I haven't done anything that could cut off the whole connection.
I tried to connect it to the first modem but still no effect.
At first, we had em' all connected to a A-link router, where then connected to the internet, because of it's too tight and firewall we bought this one, wich is now connected to the A-link...
