Internet Disappeared? Don't have any idea how to solve :( Help!

Hello Vista Forums
After hours of searching through the internet, I have finally decided to ask for help.
I have installed Vista Ultimate x64 on my PC, everything went fine - until I recieved updates of some kind, however these were not ordinary updates, after installing these updates I cannot connect to the internet... Yet before the updates, I had no problems, now I cannot find a network even though my ethernet cable is plugged in!

When I go to diagnose it comes up with "The Network adapter "Local Area Connection" is not correctly configured to use the IP protocol"

I have tried removing/reinstalling my LAN drivers on my motherboard, but to no avail!
Please advise!

Kind regards,
Kai

NOTE: Updates that I installed which led to my problem were:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .Net Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x64
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64
and Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista x64

I have a feeling that it is something to do with SP1, but am not sure.
