| Vista | No longer can copy files to Vista system Since June 2008, I have had a Windows 2000 system connected to a Vista system thru a router. I have several shares defined on the Windows 2000 system. No shares are defined on the Vista system. On 28 April 2009, I replaced NIS 2008 with KIS 2008 on the Vista system. On 23 June 2009, I noticed that the Vista system could no longer COPY files from the Windows 2000 sysyem to the Vista system, tho I could still open the files. I know that, on 19/20 June 2009, the Vista system copied files from the Windows 2000 system. So something broke after that. As I recall, there was a Windows update installed on 23 June 2009. Perhaps, that update changed some settings? What do I need to look for? Is this a known problem? |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: No longer can copy files to Vista system 1-Have you checked the event log to see if any thing is going on on these dates 2- are you sure that your AV software isnt causing the problem 3- use a port scanner to see if the nessarcy ports are opend on bothe PCs Microsoft file sharing SMB: User Datagram Protocol (UDP) ports from 135 through 139 and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) ports from 135 through 139. • Direct-hosted SMB traffic without a network basic input/output system (NetBIOS): port 445 (TCP and UPD). |

| Vista | Re: No longer can copy files to Vista system I am going to do the following: a. disconnect th ecable modem, so I can disable the AV. b. disable the firewall in the AV. c. disable th AV d. reboot See if the problem persists. 3- use a port scanner to see if the nessarcy ports are opend on bothe PCs Microsoft file sharing SMB: User Datagram Protocol (UDP) ports from 135 through 139 and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) ports from 135 through 139. • Direct-hosted SMB traffic without a network basic input/output system (NetBIOS): port 445 (TCP and UPD). Do not know how to check that. Why would the ports be an issue, as Vista is able to open the files, just not able to copy them? |

| Vista | Re: No longer can copy files to Vista system And I now see that it is not a network problem, it's worse than that. If I righ-click in a directory and choose New | Text Document, or Word Document or ..., the document does not get created. So Vista's drop handler, if that is still the right term, is kaput. Do not recall the last time I used right-click to create a file, so I do nott know when it got broken. Should I repost this in another forum/newsgroup? |

| Vista | Re: No longer can copy files to Vista system It's working again! 1. As the Windows update had been run 24 June, I restored a backup from 23 June. Alas, problem continued. 2. I then restored a backup from 21 June. Alas, problem continued. 3. I know that I did a COPY/PASTE as recently as 19/20 June, so I then restored a backup from 16 June. Problem fixed!!!!! I then updated KIS, problem still fixed!!!!!! I then ran Windows update, problem still fixed!!!!!!! Evidence is that something broke between the 16 and 21 June bckups, most likely on 20/21 June AFTER I did a COPY/PASTE on 19/20 June. I am now backing up the system. I guess that there could have been a virus that KIS did not detect. Any other suggestions for cause of the problem? When the backup is finished, I'll turn on Automatic updates in KIS. |
