Disconnected when house phone rings?

When ever i am on my laptop or playing my ps3 and my house phone rings i instantly lose my connection. Both of these things are connected via Router (Wirelessly).

So today I decided to call comcast (I have Comcast High Speed Internet) so when i called them they said that I needed a booster and that they would send a technition to hook it up. But is this really what i need?, is there anything i can do besides getting a booster?

And what would this booster do?

Thanks,

I have no idea with regards the booster but do you have filters on all your phone sockets. I know that here you need a filter to separate the voice part from the Internet part and the router connects to the line through the filters.

That may not be anything to do with your problem but those are my thoughts. ;)

Sounds like they didn't install it correctly the first time.

The voice calls goes in the lower part of the voice on the phone line. The computer signal goes on the upper part of the voice frequencies. The two shouldn't clash.

I had the exact same problem. It was a wiring problem of the different phone outlets. Something like parallel versus serial, but I am really not an expert in that. Once the phone company rewired my place, things worked.

It does sound as though at least one connection has been wired up wrong as mentioned ...almost classic case. You need to have the wiring connection codes checked on your wall plates..all of them as if a mistake was made on one, likely it was made on others. What's happening is you are hooked up on the phone side of the frequency and when a call comes in ,it drops you off..just like the old Dial-up days. You could do it yourself by checking what colour wires go to which connection behind the wall plate against another (i.e. a friend or relly). You will likely find that on the connection you are using,or the one before it on the circuit, is hooked up to the wrong pin.Whoever did the installation is at fault.

I'm not sure that comcast supply ADSL lines Joan, I think Comcast is a cable company like Virgin Media, they don't use ADSL filters, I think it's something to do with the wiring.

Thanks for letting me know that Dave, I wasn't sure just what Comcast used which is why I said here we needed to have filters on the sockets.
And there's no chance of us getting cable so I wouldn't even know how Virgin did it ;)

i had this problem when my internet connection was Dial-up.
i resolved this problem by handling my dial-up setting in own Creative modem software.
this config is helpful when you are receiving fax.

anyway i think your problem raised from modem.

I had this prob, if your cordless phone in the house is I think 5.4 GHZ or 4.8 GHZ you have to go into your router and change the channel to 11
