Ummm Network problem maybe? SP2 problem?? Not sure. Need your advice!

Hey yall, first post here. I am having a small problem. I recently update to the Vista SP2. It seems like after this installation I am having problems with my network. I can not get my Itunes connected to the store, I can't get my Mcafee to update, and I could not get a program for my Blackberry to update. I have tried and tried all kinds of stuff and I am really not sure what to do. As I was running some tests on my command prompt I got the System Error 53 message. Maybe yall can point me in the right way rather then me just googling everything and getting tons of different ways. I thought I would include this if this will help. Thanks to all in advance!!

Re: Ummm Network problem maybe? SP2 problem?? Not sure. Need your advice!

Are you just having isolated connection problems outside of your home network (i.e. on the www) or are you not able to connect to the internet at all? You've mentioned just a few things that you're having problems with but not all servers external to your home network. So, if that is true (that you can access the internet, just not everything) it's probably a firewall issue.

Check your fire wall settings in both Windows and in whatever "virus protection program" you're running. If you're running McAfee, you might as well just disable Windows firewall completely + Go into McAfee's firewall configuration settings and make sure that all the things you want do be able to do (ports) are enabled.

SP2 probably isn't causing the problem.

I can connect to the internet perfectly fine. It just seems to be these external issues. I have deleted the Firewall from Mcafee to see if that was the problem but it wasn't. I have tried to do research on the Vista Firewall and haven't really figured anything out. My guess is that is the problem or something got turned on or off somehow.

Just as way to be thorough in your troubleshooting:

If you have the McAfee install disk and you are sure you have your registration key, why don't you try completely removing McAfee just to rule it out.

1) Go to the Control Panel and Uninstall McAfee.
2) Run the McAfee removal tool to completely get McAfee off your computer: http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

3) Restart your computer.

After (3) Vista should prompt you to throw up it's firewall in a kind of Default setting. Why not allow this, and then see if you can access the kinds of services you're having trouble with.

Start with that. It might feel drastic, but it will feel better than just plugging around in Firewall configurations.

Ok. So now you should try turning the Window's Firewall OFF completely.

network. on the Windows firewall --> Off. It will scream about you being unprotected and you will thank it for its concern.

Ok. So, it doesn't seem to be a firewall issue. Perhaps some of these programs have been affected by SP2. They shouldn't have been, but you never know.

A good next step might be an uninstall of iTunes. Once it is uninstalled, try re-downloading the 64bit edition of iTunes, and reinstalling it. Once you've done that, try to sync or update or whatever you were trying to do.

It might seem like these are silly exercises, but it's best to troubleshoot in a slow, systematic way. We want to keep uninstalling SP2 as a last resort.

Yeah I understand. I will do that for my Itunes and see how it works. There still must be something that is not allowing these programs to receive outside information and you would think that would be a Firewall issue. Whooo knows?! I will get back here in a little bit after this ITunes deal. I have around 9000 songs so it may take a minute.
