xp to vista remote assistance (not home network)

ok so my neigbor is really crap at computers,right so im sick of driving to his house so i tried to set up "remote assistance" but i can seems its not possible for the PC's to find each other i dont know how but i start it up and bang 30s later to connection? im scratching my head cause i actually called micrisift (idiots) and the tech guy actualy said he dosnt know whats wrong (isnt that against policy to admit the dont know wtf is going on?)
help needed

XP. SP3. broadband connection.
vista SP2 broadband.

ActiveX has to be enabled, and your neighbor's computer has to be set to allow remote assistance.

ok i have enabled remote assistance but how do i enable activeX rember on windowslive. my neighbor sends me a remote assistance request and i accept but i says coinnecting for 20seconds and nothing happpens it says dissconected from user.i know there is a little password thing thats supposed to come up. and it works with my dads who is in russia so im really dumbstruck. note im in new zealand when i remote assistance my dad

In IE browser, Under tools-> Internet Options -> Advanced scroll down to Security, and select 'Allow Active Content'. Click on Appliy, then Okay.

I don't have FireFox at my present location.

Also, sometimes there will be a bar just below the 'File, Edit, View, Favotires' area of IE when you are attempting Remote Assistance. Click on that. And select 'Allow ActiveX content'.

thanks alot. guys so my neight bor should be able to send a remote assistance request from his windows xp proffesinal SP3 to my windows vista home premium SP2 with no problem?
