Hi,

I am using Vista Home Premium.

I have been trying for a long time to share the C drive of my desktop with my laptop where I can view and change files on my laptop. However, I cannot seem to do it.

The workgroup name is the same.
It is a private network on both.
When i go to "view full map", I can see that the two computers are connected to the router!

However, when i share a folder such as C drive, I cannot see my laptop name in the location.

Please please help!!!

Thank you,

BT123

You cannot really share a "drive". But you can share the folders within a drive. Here is a pretty good guidance ( Windows Vista Annoyance #3: File / folder sharing between computers on a network « Proud Geek ), but there are a lot more on the web.

My Computer

System One

  • Manufacturer/Model
    Dell
    CPU
    Q6600
    Memory
    4GB
    Monitor(s) Displays
    HP w2207h
    Hard Drives
    2x250GB HDDs
    1x60GB OCZ SSD
    6 external disks 60 to 640GBs
    Other Info
    Also 1xHP desktop, 1xHP laptop, 1xGateway laptop
I would like to disagree with you. sharing an entire drive is the same as sharing a folder or file.

currently I have my g.....f....and 2 cd/dvd drives shared as well as a server drive over all 5 computers on my network. the trick being that the other computers are forced to log in to access the drive.

OK, agree. But that is a slightly different scenario than the one I had in mind.
