Yet another Vista-XP file sharing issue

Long time listener, first time caller...

I have a Vista 32bit Ultimate machine, on which all of the computers on my home network (all running XP) can access, change, and otherwise manipulate the Public folder without any problem.

On this machine, I am also attempting to share a folder in my personal directory. Let's call this "X". From all the other machines in my network, I can log in (using the username/password on my Vista machine) and read the contents of X, and navigate to all its subfolders. However, I can't open any file, nor create or delete any files.

Seems simple, right? Except I've read a few dozen threads and blogs and still can't find the solution. Yes, I've:
o Disabled the firewall on the Vista machine
o Ensured that the folder is shared, AND...
o ...separately set permissions on the folder and all its subfolders to allow full CRUD access
o Tried with machines in the same workgroup and different workgroups
o Tried with machines that have the same un/pw, same un but different pw, and totally different usernames
o Ensured that the security/sharing settings on folder "X" match that of the Public folder (at least for the users Administrators, Everyone, and my personal account)
o Verified that the folder is indeed shared in Network And Sharing Center

...and pretty much all the other routine stuff. I'm really at a loss and would appreciate any advice.

One other oddity that may or may not be relevant: whenever I attempt to share the folder via Network And Sharing Center (as opposed to right-clicking on it and selecting "properties"), and I set up Everyone as a co-owner, then the same result ensues *except* for whatever reason, my entire Users directory becomes shared.

Thanks in advance.
