can't find anymore wireless networks

Hi,

I have problem that needs solving fast. I own an Acer Aspire 8920 with windows vista home premium on it. The problem is that i can't find any wireless networks. I didn't have the problem before, my computer can still connect to two wireless networks that I used in the past. Now I needed to connect to a new one. As I said I can't find any wireless networks not even those networks I can connect to.

Re: can't find anymore wireless networks

go into device manager (type device manager in search) look for notworking devices and see if you wifi card is there and working properly. Look for any devices with a yellow triangle on them because they are not working.\

Re: can't find anymore wireless networks

I had a look in it and i don't think there are any problems.
I took a screen print hope you see what i mean (its in Dutch).
Can there be a problem other then my hardware?

Re: can't find anymore wireless networks

Hello Tomco,

Click on the network icon in the taskbar and select the 'Network and Sharing Center' then on the left column select 'Connect to a network' it will display current in range networks, hit the refresh icon in the upper right hand corner. What happens from there?

Try this and post the results:

At the start menu in the search bar type 'cmd' without the quotes and hit enter.
Type in this command without the quotes: 'netsh wlan show networks'
Please post the results
If networks show up then I dont know why it wont display them in the Network and Sharing Center.

If nothing is displayed, try typing this into the prompt, again, without the quotes: 'netsh wlan show blockednetworks' and post the results

I'm thinking somehow network visibility got blocked...

Re: can't find anymore wireless networks

How about checking to see if windows is managing the wireless card. Also I noted after updating to SP1 on an older spare system I have, that the linksys internal card did the same where it never found networks. I removed the hardware from windows device manager, and let if find it again. What happened was intresting to say the least. What once was a linksys wireless card, was found as a broadcom and worked faultless after that.

Give it a try by removing, and letting it remove the drivers (*download the latest from Acer for your card first to have on hand.) and then have windows find hardware again.

Just a simple thought to try first.

Yes, that's another thing to try. Good advice.
