Re: Static IP

Hello GeorGeZ,
It looks like you will have to get in touch with your ISP, lifted this from another site, hope it helps.
Good luck.

"There are times, however, when users who connect to the Internet using dynamic IP wish to allow other computers to locate them. Perhaps they want to use CU-SeeMe or use a VoIP application to make long distance phone calls using their IP connection. In that case, they would need a static IP address. The user has two choices; they can contact their ISP and request a static IP address, or they can use a dynamic DNS service. Either choice will probably involve an additional monthly fee."

Re: Static IP

I cant see how that works as your IP address is assigned by your ISP, if you change your IP address how will they provide a service ?.
I would get in touch with your ISP to be on the safe side.
If you want to be adventurous, then you could give it a go, just make sure you write down your old settings before you start.
This site says you need to get in touch with your ISP for a static address, which i would say is correct.

How do I configure my static IP address?

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thats your internal network IP, for your external ip - What's My IP Address? Networking Tools & More

If you use a router you will need to setup port forwarding to your machine for whatever ports CS uses.

Which is the reason most ISP's will charge for a true static IP...plus most disallow servers to be run...

Not always. DynDns offer a free service and have done for many years.
