Hi all,
I need to change the default ICS IP address 192.168.0.1 when sharing my Internet connection with other machines as I have an IP conflict with the cellular modem that I cannot change.

Is it possible to assign a new network range for the dhcp server for the local network. If so, probably in the registry. Does anyone know of this?

Regards Ebbe

its easy and possible. you need to tell us what router you have.

It is NOT a problem to connect between the internal LAN and the VISTA box. The problem I have is that the Vista DHCP-server obviously MUST use the 192.168.0.1 address to be operational with ICS. But in my case that address has already been allocated to the Internet connection and it can not be changed. So I need to use another setting for the default internal IP instead of 192.168.0.1 - a setting that makes the DHCP server work. I have tried several other addresses with no luck, i e no DHCP.

without a description of the network topography, I cant give you valid help. how many computers, can you manually assign static IP's, is the ISP's internet connection PPoE? etc

The Vista box (laptop) is connected via USB to a mobile internet dongle connection Qualcomm GI0225. The internet IP-adress is allocated via DHCP from ISP as well as DNS info. Internet works good on the Vista box. IP right now is 79.102.78.239, Netmask 255.255.255.0 and GW 79.102.78.237.

The internal LAN-connection from the Vista box goes to a switch to which also the other computer is connected. According to MS manuals the internal VISTA LAN connection shall be using the static IP-address 192.168.0.1 and the netmask 255.255.255.0 (no other info shall be given in the configuring box) in order for the VISTA internal DHCP-server being able to lease IP-addresses from 192.168.0.2 and upwards. The other computer's LAN connection shall be prepared to receive a dynamic IP address delivered by the Vista box. No other DHCP or DNS server must be active on the network.

I have tried to configure the Vista box LAN connection accordingly but I am told by Vista that the 192.168.0.1 address is already occupied by the wireless device and must not be altered. Trying to use another address yields no DHCP, at least those I have tested.

The other computer runs Linux Fedora 6 where I am able to change everything according to what is needed. I have up till now used that computer as a local server for backup etc. but I want to be able also to connect to Internet. You do not need to tell how to configure the linux box, I think I know of that myself.

So my thinking was to alter the default range for DHCP setting in ISC mode in Vista in order to have it work with DHCP. Alternatively the DHCP range could be altered but hoe achive that I don't know of.

Hi
I have solved the problem. In network connections page I have a device called Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adaptor. This device was swiched off by the power swich and not working but it was activated in the networc connections page. I disactivaded it and now it works Great. Thanks for trying to help.

For those on Linux: Don't forget in a terminal window to create a
route add default GW 192.168.0.1
if it is a computer on the local network.

Ebbe
