Comcast Network

I got Comcast Network with 16Mbps & powerboost. I am connected to the router with a cable. After running speedtests, the results I had gotten were around 4.52 Mbps Download & 3.39 Mbps Upload at Speedtest.net.
Results from SpeakEasy.net
Download Speed: 3742 kbps (467.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2705 kbps (338.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Is this what I'm suppose to be getting or is there something wrong with it?
What tweaks or something I could to get it to what it is originally?

Thanks

Edit: I have a MN-500 Router. I wonder if the router affects what I am getting. If it does, what kind of router should I be getting that's good and cheap? Thanks again

Seeing that you use cable broadband, I wouldn't worry to much about those results right at the moment. As you might have guessed with cable there is a drain with speeds due to the mass usage. It's like electricity with peak times and off peak times of usage for lack of a better analogy. Try taking some speed tests at different times during the day and days of the week for a couple of weeks then compare results and then compare to what your ISP is providing. Keeping in mind that what they tell you your speed are, are for perfect conditions, which is 99.9% never achieved. There are some rare cases of matching or bettering said speeds from ISP providers.

I had this same problem when I upgraded to the 16 mbps modem.

1. Unplug the router. (Power and ethernet cable)

2. Then hit the reset button on the Comcast modem [below the ethernet port(with a pen or something)]

3. Then wait for the lights on the modem to stop flashing and are solid.

4. And finally re-power and re-connect the router.

The Comcast guys said this would "Sync" your router and modem. After doing so, I was at 16mbps, from an original speed of 4.87 mbps

Try connecting the modem directly to the computer, and than do a speed test.

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

If your internet speed is running normal (15-16 mbps), while hard-wired to the computer, then we know it is not you connection, and possibly your router.

Edit: Result I got while my brother is watching youtube. I believe it's getting better Thing is, I test it at San Francisco, when I test it at LA server, it hits a 7.xx

Your connection is running at that speed with the modem directly plugged into your computer?

If so, I would presume this would be a problem with your connection to the Comcast server; in which case, may be the time to call Comcast.

Re: Comcast Network

I don't think you'll ever see the full 16mb/s your paying for. If you want to verify that and prove me wrong, which you more than likely will, please do. But I don't think there is anything wrong with your connection. I mean your ping is 19ms. I'm on a 130mb/s link and I have a ~70ms ping. I don't think there is a problem with your network.
