Anyone Else have a Netgear WNR3500?

MDA400

Nvidia and Intel
Power User
Clearly, this model sucks for one reason,

THE UPnP WILL NOT STAY ACTIVE...

Freezes the Daemon, then crashes and i can tell this when i log on to GFW, it takes longer if you dont have UPnP, to logging in in about 10 sec. WITH UPnP.

have you installed the latest firmware?

Answer

Oh sorry 'bout that. I have v1 of the router as well.

Yes i have. It's Version 1.0.31NA.

I Know I Know... its not on the actual WNR3500 v1 page, because it's a secret firmware that never was released, but dont say that's the problem why its not working.

The LATEST Firmware for this router is 1.0.30WW and NA and i know that, but the 1.0.31NA is a translated version of the German 1.0.31 that added on to the 1.0.30.

More exciting news. After realizing this didn't fix the problem, netgear said ...

This is ***** After reading your case I see that you are having issues with the UPNP service on your router.

I know this can be a frustrating issue and appreciate your patience with this. We currently do not have a beta firmware available for this device. Hopefully there will be something available in the near future that will resolve this issue. So please keep checking in with us.

EXACTLY...

I just phoned them yesterday and got a yet ANOTHER rep from india (always get them now a days) and he walked me through the basic solutions.

Examples: MTU from 1500 to 1450 (have NO clue why he did that when i have cable and so i changed it back), DMZ (which causes the NAT to not work correctly),
Static IP's (for port forwarding and DMZ).

And yet nothing... Ill create this diagram of what my UPnP page has looked like for the past >3< days now...
(notice the first Address is my computer when i play Games For Windows and the second address is the Xbox 360 which is never left on.)

ACTIVE---PROTOCOL---INT. PORT---EXT. PORT---IP ADDRESS---
yes--------UDP--------3074----------3074-------192.168.1.104-
----------------------------------------------------------------
yes--------UDP--------28474--------28474------192.168.1.100--

Yes it does really "frustrate" me... i shut off my computer before i go anywhere or to bed, so those ports say they are open because the Daemon really froze and crashed...

It sounds like that are well aware of the problem and are unwilling or unable to fix it. Bummer!

Next time go with a linksys. If you're into hacking, you can even flash the bios with dd-wrt.

LOL guess what Lemur...

Our old WRT54G v6 got flashed with vrt micro v24 sp1.

THAT router's UPnP was the greatest ever...

Never went bad on me and since i could OC that router a bit to 216mhz, it was perfect.

But now the reason why i dont use that one, is because that router is now a part of my Dad's printing business network and i wouldnt want to have to set another up for him.

The reason we got this WNR3500, was because we were at Microcenter looking to build my dad a media center pc. Then, we also thought about a new router, because i was looking for Gigabit ports for my PC, had N wireless and he needed the wrt54G for his job.
