networking my computer in one state to family's computer in another state

Is it possible to allow two computers in seperate states to be part of a private network?

I have my own home network a desktop and lap top at home. I live in Washington and my mothers desktop is in Colorado, plus she has a laptop that travels.

Is there any way to allow these 4 computers to be on there own private network to allow file sharing and xfering?

My desktop has Vista, Laptop has XP,
Hers both have Vista.

Thanks

Private network. NO, sharing files etc yes. Its a lot of work, and there are easier ways to do it. Can you give us more specifics about what you need to do?

thanks
