networking my computer in one state to family's computer in another state

Second Try: I tried to post this earlier, but i cant find it in Network & Sharing so i thought i would try this again. If this is a double post i appoligize.

Is it possible to allow two computers in seperate states to be part of a private network?

I have my own home network a desktop and lap top at home. I live in Washington and my mothers desktop is in Colorado, plus she has a laptop that travels.

Is there any way to allow these 4 computers to be on there own private network to allow file sharing and xfering?

My desktop has Vista, Laptop has XP,
Hers both have Vista.

Thanks

I will tell you the same thing I did before. Private network, maybe but expensive and requires lots of work.

You can however share files, and even control the other computers using an app called team viewer.

Hope this helps
