Hey all, new to the forum here so can you help me out. I have just replaced my motherboard and cpu as i dropped my otherone and broke the legs, so new motherboard and cpu. ~i have reinstalled windows vista and it is working fine except i cannot connect to the internet. i cannot connect to update the network driver. when i am in command prompt i ran it as administrator and tried 'ipconfig' then 'ipconfig /release' but after that operation has failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation. I have tried changed the cable and still nothing. please help!!

Thanks Robert

Check in device manager (Control Panel > System > Device Manager) for any devices with a yellow exclamation point. Specifically look in the 'Network Adaptors' section.

if vista did not automatically install the drivers for your network card, you'll have to find out the model and download the drivers on another computer. if you have a usb thumb drive or something similar, use that to bring the drivers over.
