Vista - file sharing between xp and vista issues...

Hi all, having some issues with file sharing and I'm out of ideas. Hoping you guys can help me out here.

I setup a workgroup network of 4 machines.
1 x win xp - home
1 x win xp - pro
2 x vista home premium

one of the vista machines has a shared folder on it and all 3 of the other machines access it via mapped drive and by IP and not name

the xp - home machine intermittenly gets errors when trying to access this shared drive, either error while reconnecting to \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\office data or not enough server storage available to process this command

i tried changing the stack size but it has not worked amongst other things, anybody got any ideas?

Can the XP boxes see the Vista Box and vise versa? I'm currently dealing with a similar issue but add a Win 7 box into the mix. Some settings that I would recommend checking would be to make sure that the permissions are properly set, and make sure the netbios over TCP/IP is open.

Have you checked to see if the XP box can ping the Vista box and the other direction?

yea the xp boxes can ping the vista machine all day long and vice versa, what do you mean by see the vista box? i set the permissions to everyone full control. they are actually getting ready to add a win 7 pro machine lol

My apologies, what I mean by see is via work group networking can you see the Vista box from the XP via name?

The current client project I'm working on I have a new Win 7 box hosting a licensed software via file share, the Vista boxes can see and file share without issue with the Win 7 box. However my XP boxes cannot see the Win 7 box nor the Vista boxes with Network Neighborhood. Everyone can ping each other all day long but just cannot connect the share between XP and Vista/Win 7.

oh, not sure ill have to check next time im up there, well the issue im having is very strange, evertime im there and testing there is NO issue, at all, it never comes up and everything works fine, but then next business day i get a call, and they say it only happens for awhile and then goes away so....

On my current project I'm dealing with a similar issue in that I will get the Vista boxes communicating with the Win 7 box and then 30 minutes later after I leave one of the clients will lose connection with the host box.

check it, i just called my POC at the law office this network is in and had her do what they said in this link, so we shall see if it works

By removing the XP box from the workgroup I was just now able to get the XP box to see and connect to the Vista and Win 7 boxes.
