wired connection not seen in device manager

I have an HP dx6500 with the service tag dx6667cl. I'm running Vista ultimate 64 bit. My problem is I can't connect to my home network. It has a wireless card in it but, I don't have a wireless access point. It is the only network device listed in the device manager. I have tried opening the bios but there is no way to enable/disable the integrated nic. I was not able to find any of the integrated devices in the bios. I tried flashing the bios to the newest version. That did not help any.

How do I get Vista to see the wired nic?

Hi mygor

Download drivers from:

I have the latest drivers in it. I have tried both the HP and Intel versions of the chipset drivers. The lights at the RJ45 port are on, I have tried several cables. The add new hardware wizard doesn't see it. I thought that flashing the bios would reset it to default enabled. But that didn't work either. Unless there is a special F key to reach the integrated hardware in the bios I must be doomed. LOL!

I have spent the last couple of days at the HP website, going through the forums there and googled the problem. The only thing that comes up are problems with the wireless adapter. I do know that this dx series has an issue with the power that causes shutdown. Many people say the motherboard is junk in these laptops. Even after having the motherboard replaced the power issue returns after a few weeks.

On the bright side I have no money in this thing. It was dumped on me by a customer who wanted a second opinion on the power issue. The first place he took it told him it would cost $500 to replace the mobo. They also told him the problem would most likely return. This is also what I found in my research. (junk mobo) He decided to put his money into a new Dell instead. I need to replace my wireless router anyway. That will solve my internet connection with this. I will play with it for a while longer, then sell it for parts on ebay.

Thanks
