I have two Vista machines on the same network. I used to be able to access network resources on each computer but now when I type \\IPAddress I get a logon prompt--if I enter the username and password correctly I get the error:
It appears the problem is actually machine B, as I have problems accessing it from another machine on the network as well. In fact, if, on MachineB itself, at Start | Run I type in either \\192.168.1.xx or \\localhost it gives either the same error, or a simple "Parameter is incorrect" error or sometimes that it can't find the resource requested.
I can ping MachineB just fine from other machines, and MachineB can ping other machines--either by name or IP address.
Any ideas? Is there a service that got disabled somehow perhaps?
I get this error whether MachineA is trying to access MachineB, or if MachineB is trying to access MachineA. When it prompts me for username and password I enter the same local user I have always been using, a user who is a local administrator. This used to work fine, the only thing I can think of that has changed is that I applied a bunch of Vista updates, and upgraded AVG antivirus free. I tried turning off the (Windows) firewall but it didn't help.\\IPAddress is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The parameter is incorrect.
