Windows Vista Local Access only or Limited Connectivity

Hello guys, I am using a Dell Inspiron 1545,with Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit OS.I was using the hotel wi-fi network in which I am residing in currently .Everything was hunky dory for a week , when all of a sudden I could not connect to the wi-fi network in my hotel,I keep getting either a Limited connectivity message with a yellow triangle on the wi-fi icon or a Local only access. I searched everywhere and tried all possible things like :

- Changed the Dhcp flag in the windows registry as directed on the microsoft site.
- reset the wincsock using " netsf winsock reset".
- Disabled Ipv6 for the network in the "Properties tab".

Its highly piddling off as my friend staying in the same hotel with a HP laptop running Vista Home Premium is able to connect to the same wi-fi network without any issues.

Can anyone please help me out with this , its really irritating !

Thanks in advance.

Solved: Windows Vista Local Access only or Limited Connectivity

Guys call it my lucky charm or whatever , the day I posted my query on this forum , I was myself able to figure out the solution.

I just changed the registry setting field DhcpIPAddress to an IP Address that was from a Spool of IP addresses that was functioning correctly. I checked my friends IP on his laptop that was able to connect to the same network and set the IP Address in the DhcpIPAddress field to the next IP (my friends IP + 1) . After that I also reset my winsock settings with the command. "netsh winsock reset" to run this command , you need to open command prompt in the administrator mode. But I am not sure whether this contributed to solving the problem. I guess changing the DhcpIPAddress field was enough.

Do the above, and restart your machine, hopefully it should work fine.

Let me know if you need anyone needs help. All the best :) !!!!

Nope... didn't work. Followed your steps and had an uninterrupted signal for a full day but was just watching youtube and got the same old "Access Limited Connectivity". My signal is full strength and have no problems with XP systems in the house but this Vista laptop has been cursed with this problem for some months. Have tried numerous system date restores and Microsoft "fixes" but so far nothing has helped.

Does anyone have a clue how to fix this problem?? Did it truly help the OP?

Ok so I misspelled my registered name (above) and can't find a way to delete the post (or profile). The Vista limited connectivity problem still persists.
