Vista SP2 will not connect to WEP network

OK, I'm trying to connect to a WEP wireless network using Vista.

I see the network icon in the tray has a red X through it. I move my mouse over it and it says "wireless networks are available". I right click the icon and select "connect to a network". The "connect to a network" dialog opens and shows one network available. I hover my mouse over the network and it shows:
Name: xxxxxxxx
Signal Strength: Good
Security type : WEP
Radio type 802.11g
SSID: xxxxxxxx

I highlight the network and click the "connect" button. Now I see another dialog that asks me to Type the network security key or passphrase for xxxxxxx

There is a box to type in the 10 number WEP key I was given. I check the "Display characters" checkbox and I can see I typed in the 10 numbers correctly.
I then click the "Connect" button.....

I see a screen that says "Connecting to xxxxxxxx and the progress bar. After about 6 seconds, I get the message "The network security key provided does not match the network security key for this network. Please re-enter the network security key for xxxxxxx"

I know this is the right password. I use it on numerous XP machines. In fact, I've connected to this network with this Vista computer about a year ago. Since then I've updated my Vista service pack. I don't believe the router has been updated. I can log onto this router right now with a XP machine using this 10 number password.

With this computer I can get onto WPA networks without any problem.

What I've tried:
1) Disable the IP helper service.
2) Disabled IPv6 for the adapter.
3) Added "DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle" element to the adapter and set it to 1 in the registry.

None of this has worked.

I'm running Vista home premium SP2 on a gateway laptop. I know WEP is not secure. But the router is not mine so I can't make any changes to it. I just have to use what I have been given. This has to be something I can fix in Vista, but I'm out of ideas.

Can anyone help?

Go to the "Network" folder.

Does the wireless router show up? If it does, right click on it, display its Properties, go to the second tab and see if the router shows a MAC address.

You need to see if the MAC displayed matches the router's MAC that it shows. I bet that during the interim year the router's MAC changed.
