Limited Connectivity - usual solutions NOT working

I have 2 Dell laptops running Vista Home.

In one, the internal wireless card died. I purchased a USB wireless card which I got to work (though would drop the signal every now and then) but that card was fairly flimsy and broke (physically). Having it stick out on a laptop that is used on the lap is not good.

So I bought a Belkin Expresscard (N1 - router is "B"). It sticks out but not as far and not as flimsy.

I have:
Installed the Vista driver.
Machine recognized the card fine.
Turned off the Dell's wireless.
Disabled the other Network device besides this card (was only 1 - the wired controller); machine doesn't even recognize that there is an internal card.
Reset the modem and router a number of times.
Rebooted a number of times.

But all I get is the 'limited connectivity' message (in other, words, no connection). Through all of this the other Dell continues to work fine onits wireless connection.

So I don't think it is a hardware issue (since the USB card worked) nor a modem/router issue (other computer works) and I think the card works (recognizes a few networks are in range and the lights are green on the card). Has to be some setting issue with Vista.

Please help. Thanks!

Hello JD,
Are you able to connect to any wireless router successfully? Also I would uninstall everything for your card. Restart your laptop and reinstall the card and the driver for it. Belkin : Support : F5D8071 N1 Wireless ExpressCard - Drivers
That should be a good driver for 32 and 64 bit. I had a card that didn't work right, and I had what I thought was the latest driver, but I guess I didn't. Also you might try to put the card in your other laptop and see if you get the same result. That way we would know its a setting for just a problem on one of your laptops.

Thanks,
Sarah

Some wireless cards, partcularly new ones, have their own software built-in. The info that came with it should tell you how to install the software the usb wireless expects. When it does the install, it should also download any patches it needs.

Good Luck !

Only have one wireless network (mine) in range that I can connect to.

Had to pull the driver off Belkin site so should be up to date. Will try in other machine (a good idea...thanks Sarah!) to see if it works there.

i also tried manual setting the DNS etc but to no avail.
