Hi,
I am trying to access my Vista Computer set up by pptp to accept a vpn connection from a windows 7 computer. Network and file sharing are turned "on", and files are set to share. It says I am connected but "NO Network Access".
using windows software only (no 3rd party).
Does anyone know how I can complete this connection? thanks!

Configure the WORKGROUP name on client workstation to be same as the other machine WORKGROUP or DOMAIN name.

Any joy?

I guess the thing to find out is what side the problem is with... the VISTA server, or the Win7 client.

Have you made connections to this machine from other systems?

If you try and browse the shares on the VISTA machine, do you get an error message? What if you run

The connection is clearly established (see attached photo), but I keep getting the 'no network access' no ipv4 connectivity message. true it could be a problem on the win7 side, win7 is known not to be friendly to older win os's. but i have established a non-vpn network on these same computers.

Partially solved: On the Networking Tab of the VPN Properties, highlight IPv6 properties, click advanced, and uncheck "Use default gateway on remote network." For some reason this allows Remote Desktop to connect to a computer by name. Explorer still will not resolve by name, but shares are visible using IP address.

SOLVED..sort of.. Went with Hamachi log me in vpn free. Works beautifully so far. Ipv4 connectivity issues just too much for ms pptp when you are behind a router & firewall & using different os's- 7&vista. took less than 2 minutes to set up and already can access my full network, including my usb hard drive from 2000 miles away!!!! I don't think you can say hamachi is a true vpn server program though, since you are going through their servers, but it works for me..

anyone had problems with hamachi logmein?

this is the 2nd time I've had to go with 3rd party software to get something working..ftp was the other..i really prefer just to use ms features but they sometimes make it hard for us..even their fans

@neheuser can you explain how you got Hamachi to work. I have not had any luck with it. I can see all the computers listed but can not browse to them. The only computer I can browse to is a Windows XP machine.
