Weird lag spike on games

Ok, I have a problem; Every game i play, in about a minute or 2, i receive a huge lag spike (that takes about 30 seconds), that my game performance goes worse and my ping goes up to 1500 or more. So, my main problem here, is that i have played with an awesome performance for like a year, and a few days ago i started receiving these lag spikes... It makes playing frustrating. Well on singleplayer it's easy to get over it by pressing esc and waiting that the lag spike is over, but on multiplayer, there's no way to avoid it cause i can't stop the game for the lag spike, so it is really piddling me off... I'd really respect that, if you'd try to find me a solution or if you know how to fix it. I have searched for solutions from everywhere. Thank you

Hello Tumppistar,
Can you fill in your system specs, thanks.
This lag spike appears on both single and multiplayer, is it on all games or just one or two ?.
Have you installed any new hardware/software ?.
When we have a bit more info, we will get into it.

Yes, it is in all games i have, even on the games with not so good graphics

I'm not sure that have i installed anything new.

Thanks for your help

The first thing i would do is to check my file system. Follow this tutorial.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Next, download and run these two free apps.

Malwarebytes.org

CCleaner - Download

Run Malwarebytes, then CCleaner. Backup Registry When Prompted.

Doing these three simple things will ensure the integrity of your file system, and clean out any malware.

When you have finished, try to play a game and see how it goes, we can then go from there.

That is what i would do, if you fancy a shortcut you could try a system restore first, to a point before this started happening.

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

I tried everything you prefered, with no results of increasing performance. CCleaner found something to remove and Malware find one infected object, but after removing them, still nothing. I restored my system also with no results. But thank you for your help anyway, thank you for even bothering to help me :)

After carrying out the above, we now know that your file system is in good order, and that you have no malware.

The next thing i would try is to update your video driver to the latest driver.

Next, go to System Configuration and see what is being loaded at startup, disable any program that is not needed for normal running, anything you disable can be started manually when needed.

Another thing you could look at is, when running a game and it starts to lag, is to CTRL+ALT+DEL out of the game, (leave game running), to the Task Manager and see if anything is hogging the CPU or Memory, this may give you a clue as to what is using all the resources.

Okay, now, i turned off some programs that start when the windows starts, no results once more. And i tried to go to the task manager on game, (hardly got into it cause of the lag), after i got it, i checked the performance capablity, and it went on like 80 and such, after the lag spike was over, it took back on to the original of 20 and such. I didn't figure out that was there anything hogging the computer or the memory.

Do as you did before, but open the processes tab, then click on this tab.

process tab.JPG

This will put them in order, highest to lowest, or click again to reverse.
There must be something running, or using all the resources, but you need to do this when it is spiking, if you miss it, wait for it to spike again.
Look in Applications, just to check there is nothing running in the background.
You can set this up before running a game and minimise it.

I am sure Stoney will get to it soon enough if your computer is deemed clean, but am I understanding this is an online game? If so, this could be a QOS issue if you are utilizing a router to access the internet.

I did as i did before, but there's only one program that is taking the memory a lot, and that is the game that i am playing.

Yesterday i tried to plug my computer to the modem with a cable, but didn't work... It's seriously really frustrating that i can't play games without a lag in like every minute or 2...

So, a quick update: Yesterday my hard drive broke for no reason, (I have no idea why) but yeah, i bought a new hard drive, and STILL!! ._. So the reason has to have something to do with fans and dirt, or my laptop is just finally broke for computer gaming... I have one button in here, that is like a running stickman, it changes something with my graphics card, and then my computer runs games a bit worse, but no lag spikes... I wonder if i've told this before here but yeah, without the button on, games run heavenly but lag spike blows my mind...

Hey i got same problem :D not every vista user have this now i will help you and stuff and bellow is listed facts of this problem:
-Apears only at laptops some of laptops wont have any problems with vista (online is more to wireless connection users even at desktop computers and offline is mostly laptop issue)
-will come in "waves" and comonly at 1-3 minutes they will apear
-spikes comonly last 8-30 sec
-problem is mainly caused ..a) vista cant optimize itself and makes processes for itself ..b)vista cant share ram it only uses ram for main priority program/aplication like system itself

Ok now tell excat model and all specs you have (yes even most uncomon like sound card accessories and stuff but if you dont know how then never mind those small things) i finaly got small proces to my lag :D now my lags last about 6-12 sec first 6sec are realy playable last 2 little distracts and anoys but thats fastly over and lag is not anymore too efective if i got 40 fps at killing floor (pretty good with laptop and maxed graphics :D) it may go as low as 10 (still playable) ask me more if you are still interested

My Computer

Hey, i know im kind of late, but id like to say i have the exact same prob, i tried everything! including restoring my prob. Only difference is my lag comes about 5 minutes into the game and stays about 10...

Anyways, if you find or have found a solution, you dont know how grateful i would be.
If you could, it would be easier for you to email it to me @ [email protected]

Thanks!
