I have a dell inspiron 1545. This morning i was connected to my home wireless network no problem as i do everyday. A technician came out and installed new cable and new internet today. He tried to set up the internet on my laptop but it will not connect to any net works not even my old network that i used problem free this morning. My other computer is connecting no problem to both the new network and the old network. I can see all the networks in the area but when i click connect the box just dissapears..... when he took my laptop to set it up it was connected to the old network connection and immediately after he disconnected me from the old one i could then no longer connect to any network.

Is it possible your laptop is blocked by the router? If you can access your router configuration page (by entering your router's IP address, or your computer's default gateway), see if you have MAC filtering set up. If so, disable it, or configure it to your needs.
I am assuming the computer that works fine is hard-wired in, right?

I tried this everything appears to be in order and still nothing.... and no the second computer that is connected is also a wireless. If i Hard-wire my laptop in its not reading it at all either.

Check in Device Manager- could your wireless card be disabled, or is there a yellow mark near it?
Can the laptop connect to any other wireless networks?

there are no marks and it attempts to connect to an unsecured network in the area but its too far away to ever get connected both of my availabe secure networks when you click on the selected network the box just closes i went to my network with the working laptop and it shows unsuccessful attempts to log in with my non working computers ip address!... Can the wireless card be bad... i mean would it show all the networks in the area if it was?

Check in the router configuration page. Make sure that you are not MAC blocked.

nope i already checked that and its disabled and my other computer is also wireless and its connecting no problem

I am having a similar problem. I was installing a new game Mass Effect 2. Was updating downloads, they were running extremely slowly, so i canceled them and reset the router as i thought that would speed it up.
The pc will now not connect to the router (but sees it) even after I restored to factory settings. But the connection is fine, and im writing this on the laptop now.
I can only conclude this is some software glitch in Vista as everything else is the same and works...
Any ideas please tell!! Thanks

Today i found that my ethernet and ms bus controller drivers were missing so update now the computer works hardwired in to the internet. It still shows the wireless networks that are available but when i click on them they just dissapear and won't connect
