Help, Receiving more packets than Sending in Vista Home

Hello, I am helping someone out.

This person has a Gateway Notebook with Vista Home.

I have been at this for 3 hours now.

She is using the wifi system in my building with no security. Her firewall isn't on also. The Wireless Network Connection looks correct.



Problem

Activity: Sent - 4,858 & Received 15,689.

Her connection has IPv4 and Ipv6. I disabled IPv6.

Well, y'all need to run firewall software of some sort if you're worried about outgoing and incoming connections.

You can't stop stuff from happening without a firewall going unless you want to diagnose and shut down specific svchost programs, and they're likely to just start up again after you shut them down.

I use Comodo's firewall. It's free, you can block specific programs from incoming or outgoing traffics, and it's easy to quickly see what's happening as it happens. I use the Defense+ "Paranoid" mode and it alerts me to everything that's going down, which is sometimes annoying but I also feel like I have good control over what is being written and re-written in my registry and system files.

It's pretty darned awesome. Here it is.


Don't share her folders. She might have her public folders "Shared," so you can shut that down by going to her Public Folders and selecting each one's "Sharing" tab and making sure that's so.
