2 Vista x64 PCs, 1 linux server. Both PCs can access net, only PC2 can see devices?

Weird one. I've got two Dell Precision workstations on a workgroup. PC1 has been having network problems (connection randomly drops off) so have used the Vista CD to replace ntoskrnl.exe which seemed to be causing the problem. It's now back and can access the internet fine, plus I can get to the setup pages for the router (192.168.1.xx) and the Qnap server (also 192.168.x.xx). BUT: it can't actually *access* either the server, nor the other PC, in Windows Explorer. The Qnap was mapped as the Z drive, and it just can't find it.

The REALLY odd thing is that from PC 2 (which is working fine), I can access PC 1 and all the drives & files on it that are shared. Using PC 2 I just successfully copied something from PC1's D drive across to the server. From PC1 I can't even see the server. Any ideas?

Also. I can access the files on the server via FTP from PC1. (This is great, but isn't a fix, as I need to be able to map it as a drive.)

After a bit more digging - it seems the Computer Browser service can't start. I've run sfc /scannow, dumped the [SR] lines into a text file and got the following (after removing other lines which were unproblematic):

Apparently the next step is to try repairing vista using the install DVD - problem is I've got SP2 installed and the DVD is only SP1. I don't have a restore point that goes back far enough, and none of the steps here How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs as a troubleshooting step work... argh :(
