WLAN card disappeared

Please help me resolve this issue!
My wife has a Fujitsu Siemens XA2528, with an Atheros 5007EG WLAN card...

Two days ago, the WLAN card just "disappeared" from the Device Manager.

When I use Systeminformation it says it has an Atheros WLAN card.

Oh, and I've done this and checked so far:

- There is no option in the BIOS for enabling/disabling the WLAN card.
- I have tried System Restore to an earlier date.
- Downloaded latest drivers from Atheros, but they can't be installed, since they only come as .inf and .sys files. When I try to add new hardware and choose the .inf file there are no cards in the list.
- I've tried installing a different WLAN card (Fujitsu/Siemens) and then tried changing the driver to the ones I downloaded. Then the inf file works and there is the option to choose the "Atheros 5007EG".

I've been working on this problem for two days now and really need your help.
Think I've tried a lot of other things that I haven't written above too..

The Fujitsu Siemens Support told me that it was probably registry and Virus related and that I had to find the correct registry key and value to "enable" the WLAN card again... I don't know about that, since it's completely invisible in Device Manager. The AV-program didn't find anything...

Please help!

Magnus

What happened prior to the WLAN card not being found? Can you remember? Because drivers just aren't deleted... Unless someone or something deleted those files and folders rendering it useless... Hmm... Is the switch turned off by chance?

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

Nothing really happened prior to the fault with the wlan card.

The drivers are there, they are not deleted.

And no, the switch isn't turned off, I checked that :)

Just an hour ago my wife started her computer to play a regular game.
Guess what happened? The wlan was connected to the router. No messages or anything came up, stating that a wlan card had been found... Just connected to the router as if nothing had happened.

Strange!

Would really like to solve this anyway, as I'm not convinced the issue is solved.

Wow. That is strange... Well if it happens again see if there is anything specific that happens. Even environmental variables such as radio interference.
