Laptop 'connects' to internet but can't browse.

Hello, I have an HP pavillion dv5000 here, it connects both wirelessly and directly to the internet, but will not let me browse/download.

Your network looks okay. You've got IP addresses and all that junk.

Reply with what version of Vista you have, whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit, what browser software you have and use, and their version numbers.

Also, let's try a little test. Open your Start Menu. In the search text bar, type your homepage or a low-infection-risk site domain page like Yahoo! or Microsoft Corporation or Business News & Financial News - The Wall Street Journal - WSJ.com. Does a window open up and a page load?

Have you tried this, power off your pc, router and the cable modem. Power on the cable modem, wait till it finishes, power on the router, wait for it to finish and then power on the pc.

Look into your firewall settings. See if your browser is blocked. Try disabling it completely and try browsing again.

Yes, firewalls can interfere with the "mating calls" and the cable modem thing is also something to try unless the computer connects through a wireless router.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: *netsh winsock reset catalog*
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. *netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log*
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. *netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log*
Reboot the machine.
