Vista Connection Issues

Hello VistaForums,

I have a rather odd and frustrating problem with my computer. It's been acting up recently and have had to restore 4 times in the past 2 days. Now a new problem has arised: Connecting to the internet. The Network icon in the system tray says I'm connected to my network, and I am, but I cannot connect to the internet. Here's what it looks like.

Desktop -------> Network ----X------>Internet

I've tried clicking on the red X to "diagnose" the problem like I read in another post, but it just sits there Identifying the problem, then says something along the lines "Windows cannot solve this problem" ( I can't remember the exact words, it's 4:30 a.m, so bear with me.)

Now, what's strange is I've tried reconnecting everything. The router, the modem, the PC... Nothing works. And when nothing's connected to my PC, it still insists that I'm connected to a network, when I'm in fact not. I've tried booting in safe mode and the same problem sill persists. I've tried doing cmd lines that I've read from other posts around the web and that hasn't worked either. And the funny thing is, the internet works on my laptop just fine. So i've narrowed it down to being my desktop. I've scanned for viruses and nothing has been found.

I hope you can shed some light upon my situation, and I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Sincerely,

Kyle

Whenever you get a lan connection you are in a network.But it does not imply you have internet access. Same problem Frequently occurs with me.
Same prob with me.
Its not vista, just call your isp.
Maybe your modem or Lancard is damaged.
If your in a building with multiple connnections from the same isp, The switch might be faulty

My Computer

go to Network and sharing (right click on the icon in the notification area) click on View Status, Properties, Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 and check the properties there. Also Diagnose works better here.
