Solved slow transfer rate over ethernet

hello,
i recently bought a new laptop and have begun transferring data between it and my old laptop with a crossover ethernet cable. however the transfer rate is extremely slow, at 1.2 MB/s when i have a 1 Gb/s ethernet port on each laptop, so it should be about 125MB/s. right?

the new laptop is running windows 7 64 bit.

any ideas on how to increase the transfer rate if possible.

Well dont know why nobody replied, but the speed did increase a bit, i change the settings in 'local area connection' and it has increased to about 12 MB/s,
thanks for viewing.

hi probably too late to reply, wasn't watching post when problem was fixed.
in the local area connection properties i changed the properties of 'internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' and input values for the ip address, subnet mask and default gateway, on both computers.

i found this info after spending some time on google. cant remember or find the site i found sorry.
