Its just a thought but how do I find out the IP address of other computers contacting me or in a visitation of myself to say their web sites.

Not long ago a scallywag attempting something bad in an attack on my computer according to the Norton security alert. I have not yet investigated as Norton caught them up to something sneaky and stopped them in their tracks.

But I wonder if the log will let me know who sent that attack so I could locate them and know who was targetting my computer and also if I could check all incoming via the IP address just in case they appear as a trojan horse whiles contacting me. If their IP address can be found how. Is it a similar process.?

You could get two imaginary oscars if you know the answer as well as our undying gratitude.

P.S. Is it possible once I found out who was attacking my computer to put a block on their IP address as we can do with Emails so they cannot sneak themselves back into a secondary attack. I know Norton security does the protecting as does windows defender however, I might be able to block them manually as well. The idea seems useful. If so how would that be done.

Thats 3 imaginary oscars you could get there and perhaps if I find out who the scallywags are maybe a ringside seat on the Jerry Springer show when I confront them.

The log will tell you who hit you, but 99% of the alerts are usually a random scan, or a odd signal from your isp, a mis configurd server etc. And not a real attack.

ZoneAlarm use to show me hits/unwanted attempts on my network all the time.

You could add a block in the firewall, but if its a real attack, they'd scan from one ip, and most likely attack from another.

Besides that, no one would do an attack from their own ip, so finding them would be impossible.

I'd only be worried if you get a continued attack, then you should call your isp.

Thank you Patonb.

I just wanted to update this thread with something more constructive. If you do want to trace an IP Address then here are some ways that you can do that. Obviously it helps if they are active perhaps with a web site.

Geolocation Determine the real-time geographiclocation of your web site visitorswww.Quova.com

IP Country Database Determine the country location ofyour Internet visitors in real-timewww.maxmind.com

Easy IP Address Search You can find somebody's addressby using a simple Reverse IP searchwww.Reverse-IP-Search.Info/
