I've been having this problem for several days now and its really starting to annoying..i tried calling At&t's tech where they remotely control my desktop, they did a bunch of virus scans and what not..i got it to work for about an hr
then AGAIN! it varys, sometimes i can connect for 5 secs or 5 min if im lucky couple hours. I don't think theres anything wrong with my modem because my laptop works just fine. It might be because of the windows update i had, but i dont know im not the professional here. Please HELP :( ill try my best to explain whatever else yall want to know, also when explaining could you give me details. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi..
I will ask you some details
1. do you mean while browsing on the internet > you often get "page cannot be displayed" or your connect goes from "internet" to "local"

I can get you to check some stuffs
Right click on your connection go to "status" then click on "properties" select "internet protocol (TCP/IP) or TCP V4 if you are using vista or win 7 then click on properties and check if the tick is on
1. Obtain an ip address automatically
2. Obtain DNS server address automatically

If it is only ur Internet Explorer which is playing up then try to reset the internet setting to factory default
how to do that
Under Internet explorer click on "tools" > internet options > Advance Tabb > "rest"
This will completely reset the Internet explorer back to 7 or something then when you open it it will pop-up with the option of installing IE8 again so do so..

cheers
Ash

hi thanks for replying i will try to answer your questions

1. i often get this page cannot display something like that
like i said sometimes it would work but most of the time i cant load any sites
funny thing is that it says im connected to the internet on the bottom right.

I've already done what your asking me like multiple times..sigh
and whenever i reset the internet settings sometimes it would work bout few mins and then disconnects again. Oh and when the internet doesnt work nothing works, like messenger etc anything that needs internet.

My Computer

what is the specs of your machine? can you please update the ethernet driver on that machine,.. Are you using vista 64 bit? do you get diagnose issue box when the webpage stop displaying?
if you click on diagnose, what it says..
Are you connected wirelessly or through RJ45 network cable? If RJ 45 make sure its a cat5e or later version of cable..
also try to use that computer on the another internet connection not through your router either at a friend or something and check if you get the same issue
this can narrow it down to either its the pc or the internet connection or the router..

cheers

*drum roll* please!!

Everyone, everyone! I have found the cure! For the problem! <3

Reduce MTU size in (WAN setup)
to 1400

It makes internet faster and more stable from the less interference! It has worked for me for a day!

I wish everyone a happy life and hope everything works for you! <3

Good news.. therefore the issue is with your router,, it is not been able to handle the speed.. What model of router is that?
If its working fine now.. so all good.. let it as it is..

My Computer

Actually quite.. embarrasing.. It was working for over 6 hours.. then.. lol.. it dropped..

My model is a NETGEAR N300 dgn2200 or 2000

To make sure it wasnt the isp... i used a ISP modem provided with our isp.. talk talk modem.. It worked fine for a day.. So it deffinely is the router..

My Computer

Ohh thought you were the thread starter sorry !!
yea Nickisawsome: check the settings of your network driver, go to device manager, then to the ethernet adapter and check the settings, sometimes setting the connecting as "duplex" is too fast for network, so set it as duplex/ negociable..

My Computer

Ok, thats definitely something with your router not been able to cop with the speed.. do you download a lot? or do you have a sp3 connected to that router? or using any program that boost your download speed on any devices?

My Computer

Hi again,

No I don't, no downloads.. I don't download often.. But it happens to laptops around the house to.. so Its not the pc. :P

I have a feeling it's to do with the speed or settings.. Im not sure though..
My ethernet is plugged into my pc.. though its disconnecting? wird? :\

My Computer

Well the fact that your PC is directly connected by ethernet cable than connected wirelessly rules out the possibility that the problem is with the router's wireless transmitter since you aren't using that and have the same problem as everyone else. And the fact that all PCs are affected rules out the possibility that it is a PC-related issue (unless they are all configured wrong in the same way - which I suppose is possible since you most likely used the same basic settings on all the machines - but again that leads us to communicating with the router by cable or wireless mode or how the router interacts with the modem). That pretty much gets us back to to router itself (or, of course, your ISP - but if you can connect fine by using the modem directly then that pretty much rules out both the ISP and the modem).

Just to be sure, is it this one: DGN2200 or is it this one: Answer? I'm trying to check on the website for information about how to congifure it and I want to make sure I have the correct one.

Thanks!

Nope, I don't download often, everythings fine..
Lights work fine.. everything? :\ [netgear n300 dgn2200]

But apparently this is a very popular problem.. for Netgear users..

But it's not the PC, Router (quality) Nor the ISP.. I've proven it couldn't be any of them..

It could possibly be the speed.. Or I might have to change ip and dns to static.. (more stable) If there's any configuration you can help me out.. with the speed, mode.. ect..

Please reply.

P.S If you want any information about my router, or my configs.. just ask ill send them back!

Do you have any 3rd party firewalls installed on any of the connected computers - if so, disable them and see if that helps. What security software are you using (name and version of everything on each PC)? If it's happening to all the computers and not just yours, then it almost certainly has nothing to do with the computer settings (unless they are ALL wrong - which I suppose is possible though I'm not sure where to start if that's the issue) and that leaves us with the router, the modem, or the ISP connection itself. The fact that it worked fine when connected directly to the modem rules out the modem and the ISP, thus we are left with the problem being the router or the router configuration.

See if the following helps: Answer.

If that doesn't work, try contacting Netgear for assistance. I don't know the status of your warranty, so I don't know which option is best. You can also try posting the issue in the Netgear forums where people with expertise in Netgear products may be able offer more assistance (there's a link to them at the bottom of the following link). Here's the contact link: Answer.

Make absolutely sure you are using the correct settings for your ISP - being off by one number or one checkbox can make all the difference between it working right or causing you problems. Double-check them with the ISP if there's the slightest shred of doubt.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!
