error enabling File and Media sharing

hey there,

In the Network and Shaing center, Network Discovery, Printer Sharing, File Sharing and Media Sharing are all disabled. (Password protected sharing is not)

I would like to enable these features, but attempting to do so yields the critical error, "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". I don't have a vista installation disc, so I can't do a repair install. Attached is the relevant Event Viewer log event (1050).

In the Services configuration window, I have ensured the following services are all enabled (as I understand they are related to network sharing)
Application Layer Gateway Service
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness (NLA)
Plug and Play
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Remote Access Connection Manager
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Telephony
however, the Terminal Service as referred to in the event viewer log does not seem to exist (...as the error would suggest.)

Still no luck. Any ideas?

Let us see what we can do! Please follow all three steps, even if Steps 1 and 2 resolve all problems.

STEP ONE (registry backup):

ERUNT - Download here
Why? This ensures we have a valid registry backup. ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) allows you to store a complete backup of your registry and restore if needed. Removing modern malware infections often requires making changes to the registry, and a corrupt registry can prevent a system from booting. Compatible with Windows NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 32 & 64-bit versions.

• Download ERUNT
• Double-click erunt_setup.exe to run.
• Follow the prompts and install using the default configuration (setup language, install location, shortcuts...).
• Say No to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later.
  
  
• Start ERUNT
• Choose a location for the backup
  The default location C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT\[today's date] is preferred
  
  
• The first two check boxes are ticked by default (System registry and Current user registry).
• Press OK
• When prompted, click YES to create a new folder.
• Progress bars will show backup status.
• A confirmation window will popup when complete. Click OK to close.

STEP TWO (Service fix):

Please import the registry fix attached to the bottom of this post.



STEP THREE (SFC Scan - about 15 minutes running time):

Right, please run steps 1, 2A, 3 (about 15 minutes), 4, 5, and then Step 1 from the top yellow box, but only follow this last one if Integrity Violations were found. Please upload the new sfcdetails.txt from your Desktop. System Files - SFC Command
