Vista not printing to XP printer....

I have a couple machines running vista that I basically want to punt out the window!
I have spent an extraordinary amount of time trying to get them to print to a
printer attached to an XP machine..

I have all manner of XP and Windows 7 boxes that find and can print to the XP
machine, just not the vista boxes..

What is the obvious thing I'm missing?

I have all firewalls on both machines turned off now..
I have them in the same workgroup..
I have everything on on the Vista box as far as network stuff, with the
password login option turned off..
I simply cannot see or use any of my shares on the network from the vista
boxes..

What firewalls have you got installed?
Have you run the network wizzard to get them on the same workgroup?

Look, there is only the windows firewall on the machines, and that is turned off on both machines... so that does answer your question...

both machines are in the same work group. The machines can ping each other.. but the vista machine "sees" only the other windows 7 or vista boxes on the network. It doesn't see the XP machines....

How do I get vista to even just "see" the machines when it browses the network?
small explosives or what? I have been at this issue for months, and it should be
resolvable...

Can you print from vista to a printer on an XP machine? Or is this just a total impossibility!

OK.. I ran the network wizard on my xp box, even though everyone not vista has been able to print to this machine without my running this....

It seems to be seeing my machines printer now, but has me login to it first...And some mumbles about drivers which I already installed....

But I did just print a test page...

I already did that on the vista box... The XP machine has been part of the workgroup for months.. What does this network wizard do to placate the vista gods that the windows 7 and xp gods don't care about??

Honestly it is ridiculous to have to go through these gyrations, but lets see if the other vista box is happy to print first... The man who has that machine will jump for joy.

Pardon me, but a million thanks!! I can't believe I can actually print from Vista to this XP box.. All of the other machines in the office have been able to do this easily for months, but not the vista boxes... I have one more, the problem child, and I'll let you when/if it works after this...
