I am unable to benefit from the full amount of bandwidth

Great Guide! Didn't know there was so many ways to try to increase your performance. However, I've tried several of the recommendations and it just doesn't seem to fix my issue!!!

I am currently running vista 32 bit home premium with a 50+ Megs bandwidth and for some reason I am unable to benefit from the full amount of bandwidth. I'm getting capped at 7-8 Megs.

Few things I have tried so far is disabling QoS on the NIC card. I've gone into the auto tuning portion in admin cmd prompt and disabled the auto tune'ing. I've also used a program called dr. tcp to increase the tcp window size and i recieve the same results. I connected my g/f's windows 7 laptop into the cable modem and no issues at all, she gets the full bandwidth.

If anyone could help me with this PITA issue I will be appreciative!

thanks,

John

Please provide the Manufacturer, make, and specific model of your computer. Please provide the same for the NIC. If you use a router, please provide the same for it. There may be some limitations in your hardware that are not present in hers as it sounds like she has a newer system and I'd like to check out the specifications if possible. Also, did you run the tests the same way (directly into the cable modem as opposed to wirelessly or through a router when you tested yours)?

Thanks!

P.S. How do you know you have 50+ MB capability and how are you identifying what your system is using - in detail, please?

Manufacturer: Dell
Model: XPS 720
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 4GB

NIC card: Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller

Cable Modem Manufacturer: Ubee
Type: Docisis 3.0 Modem/router

Modem has 4 Ethernet ports in which I'm directly connected into. I'm not using the Wireless part.

Verified 50+ MB by using speedtest.net with the G/F's Windows 7 machine. Using it to validate my connection as well. I've also had this working in the past and not sure what has changed as I don't mess around with my networking settings until now to try and fix this issue. I quit using this modem about a month ago because it seemed slow so I went back onto my 2nd connection available in my apartment which is on wireless. The wireless connection is to a separate cable modem.

Software I used to try to increase my TCP size is: DrTCP at DrTCP windows tcp tuning and tweaking | DSLReports.com, ISP Information

Think that answers just about everyone's request.

thanks!

John
