Solved Local Only - No Wireless Connection

Hello Folks -

Attached are snips of the configuration, I have not run the flush.bat because it was recently run while Jacee was assisting with another problem. I lost my wireless connection after running it - if you need it run again, please advise.

Did not want to work on this until the other issued were resolved - so here I am. I have read through many of the Tutorials, but still very confused as to where I should start and what settings effect each other.

Look forward to your guidance!

Hello again!

Some others will be along soon to add their own thoughts, but here are mine:

MAC addresses for the important things are good.

However, your wireless settings are a bit odd. Default Gateway is empty, IPV4 starts with 169 (a bad thing), and your DNS servers are odd, but not necessarily bad.

Do you use a router? If you do, what number do you type into your browser to access its configuration settings? If you don't know, try these, until you hit on your router's configuration settings:

Code:
192.168.0.0
192.168.0.1
192.168.0.2
192.168.1.0
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.2
192.168.2.0
192.168.2.1
192.168.2.2

If you don't use a router, how do you connect to the internet? Do you normally have to type in numbers on the computer for the internet to work, as those will have been removed.

Thanks!

Richard

Literally, flush.bat was run, and internet was no more. Strange. There must have been manual settings set up - no longer set up. I seem to remember FCUSA saying that her internet broke once before, and the ISP remotely looked and changed her computers settings, hence why I questioned whether she had a router - or not.

Any thoughts, (or corrections to my memory, FCUSA)

Thanks!

Hello Richard!

I do use a 2WIRE426 (ATT is my provider); although I never have gone into those settings without ATT on the phone, the number is 192.168.1.2 (plus a couple - do you want those?

Well, it typically just recognized the settings so I never had to log in. (same for the new Toshiba - it recognized the connection, typed in password on initial setup and it has been wireless since.)

Thank you,
Sally

Haven't a clue but what I want to know is did she run the File atached in my tutorial or was there one given by Jacee For the Commands in the .bat File may have changed the IPv4 Settings

This is the code found in My Bat file as you can see Echo is on so a cmd Windows should produced and the commands run

Code:
@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1

Hello Sally!

We are not actually going to change any settings there, just that number is called your default gateway, and a lot of things revolve around it. What do you mean by plus a couple. Like this: 192.168.1.2:1111

Can you tell me them, just so I know what they are, but otherwise, we have got the default gateway.

Anyway:

Start Orb > Network > Network and Sharing Center along the top bar > Manage Network Connections from the left hand pane > right click on the wireless connection > Properties > Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 > Make sure both radio boxes are at "Obtain an IP/DNS server/address automatically > OK > OK > Close x3

If that hasn't solved the issue, I shall give you numbers to type in there.

Thanks, and good luck!

Richard

That is pretty much it, Richard.

I have had limited intermittent problems over the past year -usually corrected by reboot.

Once (August, maybe), I lost wireless. ATT tech indicated I had lost my IP address - I could tell she was baffled, but proceeded to correct and all has been good since until now.

Thanks,

No problem - 192.168.1.254

Oh, right! Very different! That makes your DNS servers operable, but not quite ideal, just next to ideal, and the only issue is your computer has forgotten the IP address for the router. Sound familiar. As a test, go back to that window, but enter these numbers:

IP Address: 192.168.1.20
Subnet Mask: Automatically given. Stick with it. The norm is 225.225.225.0, you are currently using 225.225.0.0, which is strange
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254

Primary DNS: 192.168.1.254
Secondary DNS: 192.168.1.253

Give that a test, and report back.

Thanks, and good luck!

Richard

Not so fast!!!

I didn't see all the other posts - this is what fixed it - am I good to go?

Hello!

This is great news! Also, this is the ideal solution. The numbered solution is never ideal anyway, and fraught with issues, but this is just great! One day your problems will come to an end! Really!

I really hope to see you around again, hopefully without any more issues next time!

Richard
