Problem getting internet ,only getting local access

Hi,

We recently got Sky broadband in the house (in Harlow UK)

and I try to connect wirelessly to internet. I get connection to the network, but only local connection. Other times it says limited connectivity, but eitherway, NO internet. I am using my dongle right now to post here. So I have no problems with dongle, or connected to other networks before, but I just cant get full connection right now. I tried diagnose, and the fixes suggested (re setting IP) etc, but still no luck. I use a Dell laptop. Router all I can see is SKY and the access code. Don't know what kind of router it is, if other than Sky...
Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Phildas

My Computer

Hello Phildas and welcome to the forums

Can you do the following for me please:

IPCONFIG

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. Right click on cmd and select Run as administrator
4. When command prompt opens, type:

ipconfig /all

Note   Note
There's a space between the ipconfig and the /all

Then take a few screenshots of the displayed information and attach them with your next post

Device Manager

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type Device Manager and open it
3. Expand the Network adapters category and you should see an entry along the lines of this:

Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

4. Right click on it and select Update Driver Software...

Then reboot your computer.

Once you've rebooted run the attached batch file (as an administrator)

Tom

Hi Tom,
I ran the files, windows restarted, I tried connect again, but still same problem: connects but says connected to unidentified network, and local only. Still no internet...

A housemate said he got notification that a device tried to access his pc...and believes we have same IP or something and that my pc connect to local (his) and thus cannot access net. Could it be possible? Does it make sense?

Thanks,

Phildas... going slightly crazy ! :p

My Computer

Hello Tom,

Yes I ran the files. Windows restarted but when I tried connecting, same problem still: Connects to "unidentified" network as local. Still no internet.

A housemate told me his device said another device tried to link with it, sharing same IP? Thus I'd link with his device, so local, but not to router per say? Is it possible?

Thanks

Phildas...going slightly potty! lol

My Computer

Can you do all of this for me please:

CKScanner

Please download CKScanner from here to your Desktop.

Make sure that CKScanner.exe is on the your Desktop before running the application!

Double-click on CKScanner.exe and click Search For Files.
After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
A message box will verify the file saved
Attach the log CKFiles.txt that has been created on your desktop with your next post

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Download and install MBAM from here
Run a full scan and attach the log with your next post for me to analyse

OTL

Download OTL to your desktop.
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

Once OTL has completed its first scan it will save notepad copies of the scans in the folder that OTL was started from. Unless set to produce an Extras log it will only produce OTL.txt in subsequent scans.

A copy of an OTL fix log is saved in a text file at

:\_OTL\MovedFiles
in most cases this will be C:\_OTL\MovedFiles

Please attach both OTL.txt and Extras.txt with your next post for me to analyse

SFC Scan

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. Right click on cmd and select Run as administrator
4. In command prompt, type:

sfc /scannow

5. Let it run and let me know if it finds any Integrity Violations

Try connecting in safe mode with networking:

Boot Into Safe Mode

1. Save any work and close all open windows
2. Press Alt+F4
3. Select Restart in the drop down menu and press ok
4. When your computer has shutdown and is just starting to boot again (on the BIOS screen that usually has the manufacturer’s logo on it) press F8
5. Using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode with networking and press enter
