NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller Issue

Hi all,

I think this is a fairly common problem, but none of the steps in other threads I've found have seemed to help. I'll warn you now, I'm not particularly savy when it comes to the hardware side of things.

Basically, I did a system restore on a family member's laptop, and let Windows update the system pack once it finished. Once it had restarted after that, however, I couldn't connect to the internet, with Internet Explorer giving me the 'NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller Hardware Error' warning when diagnosing the problem.

I've tried updating the driver from the Nvidia website, and the Device Manager tells me that it is up to date and working properly, but that didn't seem to do anything.

The motherboard is a AMD Sempron SI-42, with a Nvidia Geforce 8200M G graphics card. I'm trying to connected to a wired network running up to a router. Other computers using this router are unaffected.

Does anyone know what I could do to try and fix this? Like I said, I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to sorting out internet connections and things, especially with laptops.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Please try this.

1. Click start...
2. Type device Manager...
3. Click show hidden devices...
4. Make sure there are no yellow flags next to and of the drivers if so update them...

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. I've checked the hidden devices, but all of them appear to be working properly. Is there anything else that might be causing this?

Hi,

Go back to device manager, this time remove the drivers when you uninstall the network card. Now run the Nvidia drivers set-up file & reboot. Doing this process will install the correct drivers, you should then be OK?

NOTE: -

Never install any drivers from the windows update service/ website for third party devices. It is OK for MS keyboards & mice but nothing else, as you have found out!

I've just finished doing some reinstalls of Nvidia drivers, and unfortuantly, the issue remains. I can only think that I've done something wrong along the way. What exactly should I have been looking to uninstall? And how should I have done it? I get the feeling I might have just been uninstalling the drivers, and not the network card itself, which i don't really know how to access.

Also, how is networking related to graphics? That's been confusing me since the first time I saw 'Nvidia' in the failed connection diagnosis.

Thanks.

EDIT: After a few restarts, the connection seems to have been fixed. Thanks very much for the help, hopefully there won't be any more issues.

EDIT 2: Spoke too soon. After a few minutes, the screen locked up completely. I restarted it manually, and the issue has now returned.

Hi,

AMD are now part of Nvidia, hence the drivers are now from Nvidia.

Please follow this picture, if not already done & my previous post for installing the driver.

Um... This is totally false.

AMD bought ATI years ago, but just recently nixed the ATI name.

Now Nvidia has, for a VERY long time produced chipsets for both video cards and motherboards.
Nvidia doesn't actually make or sell products. They make designs. They design mobos gpus for other companies to purchase and produce for themselves.

Now one of the chipsets made are ethernet interface controllers, ie NICs and theyre are bundle with the nvidia chipset, North and south bridges, and theses are the drivers that are needed, akas the Nforce drivers.

With intels new "i"sockets, Intel has cut nvidia out of the game, with the boards having all intel chipsets.. aka x58, p/h/x67.
