Connect a printer directly to one computer's Ethernet port?

Hi,

I have a network printer that used to connect to a switch, which connected to a single computer. The idea was that you can connect other laptops to the switch and then share the printer.

But no one ever does that and I needed the switch for something else so I removed it and connected the printer directly to the computer. It doesn't work. :(

What do I have to do to get this direct connection to work? Or does this absolutely require a switch?

I have never heard of using a crossover cable to connect a printer directly to a computer, is this what you are implying LoiteMansion???? I would be very instrested to know if this is possible THANX in advance!

My method:
On the printer you have to reset it as a local printer and turn networking off! Then install it the printer to your local computer using either the USB cable or Centronics/DB25 cable if its an older printer! Cheers
