Network instability, Ip Address Issue

I have had an issue with my network, wired and wireless. It seems to lose connectivity with the DSL Modem and the Windows computers on the network intermittently. Resetting the router would cure this temporarily. The problem really became worse when my daughter received a MacBookPro for college. When ever she is home, staying on the network and Internet can be almost impossible at times.
I thought the router might be at fault, it was old. The # was a LinkSys WRT54GX-v2 SRX. So I purchased a Netgear WNDR3400v2. Setup went flawlessly and the operation with all computers is good. Sometimes now there is a message popping up about an IP address conflict on the network. Network stability and internet connection stays OK now.
The router under network attached devices shows the MacBook with a MAC id, but with no name or IP address assigned. All other devices are present and assigned an IP address and name. Could any one shed some light on what I am missing/doing wrong? I have the Ip config file ready if req.

Thank You,
William
