I have a couple windows vista 32 bit machines on active directory. We have four different printers that these computers use. One is an HP 9000 that is set as the default printer. We recently added a new cannon to replace a cannon that died, that we need to set as the default and keep the hp on as a backup printer. When i try to change the default printer its not changing the default printer, nothing happens. We also have a cannon that died and if i click on delete it says access denied even using an administrator account. with the HP set as default and not able to change it i decided to try and delete it. when i do this all printing options vanish from all programs and for example word says no printer set up. If i go to the printers folder i can send a test page to the new cannon just fine. I tried reinstalling the hp 9000 and left the default printer uncheked and it made the hp the default again. Also when i did this all my print options reappeared in all the programs. anyone have any ideas i have exhausted what i can think of.

Hopefully this is an easy one. Go to search and type devices and printers. When it pop up, right click on the printer and uninstall. Then try to make the good one the default.

Did that it didn't work still wouldnt let me eset the default and then all my print options dissapeared from all my programs saying no printers installed with all three of the other ones still intalled and able to send test pages to.

If that does not work, try uninstalling all the printers, install the best one as default. Hopefully this will work. Make a system restore point first, in case of problems reinstalling.

Total i have ten of these machine it is only happening on two of the ten. The admin account is the one we use with active directory and i had no problems when i did the other 8 machine.

Do you use reg cleaners?

Yes I do. But haven't as 1 of the machine was a recently reformatted machine. I will try the SFC.
